European Consumer Payment Report 2020

The impact of the COVID-19 crisis on private households

Intrum Group publishes the 8th European Consumer Payment Report, outlining the financial impact of the pandemic on private households.

The survey shows how the impact of Covid-19 has been disproportionate – affecting certain consumer groups who already have less secure finances, such as those with lower incomes, unreliable employment or challenging family responsibilities.
On the other hand; consumers who have not had their financial situation directly affected by the pandemic are better placed to make prudent financial decisions, such as taking action to improve financial literacy, saving more or changing payment spending and behaviour.

The report is based on an external survey and research conducted  in 24 countries in Europe. A total of 24,198 consumers participated to the 2020 edition of the survey. The fieldwork for the study was conducted between 28 August to 5 October, 2020.
